A program called SCRIP is an
extensive certificate purchase program which
provides income for the school and for school
parents! The potential for income is
tremendous, and this program has become the school's
largest fundraiser. Its school profits go directly
into the school's operating budget as a revenue
source. That in turn helps to keep the tuition
increases as low as possible. Without this Scrip
profit revenue, tuition would have to be raised even
higher, as the lack of this same income source would
have to be collected from families through higher
tuitions. In an effort to increase participation by
families, the program has changed to allow credits
to begin to build immediately for families, to be
used to help offset the cost of tuition.
The program works when CKS purchases
certificates at less than face value, sells them at
face value, and profits immediately when a
certificate is sold. The school takes 1% off the
top of the sale for any vendor who pays 5% or above;
the remainder of the profit is split evenly between
the school and the family. There is no limit to how
much may be earned towards a family's tuition.
The amount of discount listed by each vendor's name
is the discount amount that is split evenly between
the school and the family.
Once a quarter, the school business
office will issue tuition credit notices to
families. The credits should then be deducted from
the next tuition payment. Tuition credits are
accumulated from April 1 through March 31 each year.
There is a great opportunity here
for families to help both the school and
themselves. Parents are not being asked to
purchase specific items for fund-raisers; rather,
this is a way to earn funds by simply changing
buying habits. If a family purchases certificates
prior to doing the grocery shopping, they will not
be spending more money, but both the school and the
family will earn a percentage of what they do
spend. Weekly grocery shopping, gas purchases,
Christmas gifts, dining out, entertainment, home
repairs can all return a profit to the school and to
a family with some advance planning.
Parishioners are encouraged to
participate in the program. Grocery, gas, drug
store, and Lowe's certificates will be available for
purchase after weekend Masses. Orders for
certificates not on hand must be received with
payment at the school office by Tuesday
of each week. The order is filled and returned
to the parish office by noon on Friday.
It will be held there for pickup during the regular
weekday parish office hours, 8:30-noon; 1pm-4:30pm.
