A
NOTE
FROM
THE
SCHOOL
COMMISSION
PRESIDENT
|

Dear Christ the King
Parents
Winter is still upon
us, although Spring
is surely on the
horizon as evidenced
at least by the
initial preparations
for Spring sports.
Before we
look too far
forward, however, I
would like to take a
moment to update you
all on some
recent-past and
near-future
activities of School
Commission and other
School related
items.
First, we had a very
successful Open
House on January 31,
2010.
A heartfelt
thank you again goes
out to everyone who
volunteered their
time to this very
important event on
the School
Commission calendar.
Particularly,
thank you to our
teachers and staff
who gave up a large
piece of their
Sunday to help us
promote our School;
to Beth Christoff
and the rest of FFG
without whom the
event would be a
mere shell of
itself; to
Commission V.P. Ted
Kolbus and the
entire Marketing
Committee of the
School Commission
who worked so hard
for so many months
preparing the
marketing strategies
for the event; to
our 7th
and 8th
grade students who
volunteered their
time
enthusiastically
conducting tours for
our prospective
families; and to any
and all other
parents who
volunteered to help
set up, clean up,
conduct tours,
shepherd their
student volunteers
to and from the
School, and in any
way contributed to
the success of the
day.
The event ran
very smoothly, and
from the turnout of
families that came
through, I am at
least encouraged
about our strong
enrollment prospects
moving forward.
Second, the
bi-annual Parish
Mardi Gras
fundraising event
recently took place,
and I personally had
a wonderful time and
hope any of you who
attended did as
well.
Thank you and
congratulations to
the entire Mardi
Gras organizing
group – most if not
all of whom are our
fellow School
parents – for
putting on such a
tremendous event!
Most of you
know that the Mardi
Gras gala typically
raises a great deal
of money for both
the Parish and the
School.
I am certain
that this year’s
event is no
different,
particularly due to
the use of new
technology for the
silent auction and
the several new
games and
mini-raffles that
were not only fun
but I have to
believe (not knowing
the final numbers)
also helped to
enhance the
fundraising revenue.
Job well
done!
Third, I know that
our 8th
grade students are
engaged in a final
push to raise funds
for their upcoming
class trip in May.
This class
trip is, I think, an
invaluable
experience for our
outgoing students,
capping both their
academic careers at
Christ the King as
well as their
personal
relationships with
each other before
they move on to high
school.
To the extent
you are able and
willing, please
participate in any
fundraising
activities that they
still have going on.
Of particular
note, please mark
your calendars for
Saturday, April 10,
which is the next
Christ the King
Trivia Night at
Tuohy Hall, the
proceeds of which
will again be for
the benefit the 8th
grade class trip.
(Sponsorships
are still available
and very welcome –
you can inquire
through me.)
Additional
details on that
event are still to
come, but you should
definitely save the
date and start
getting your teams
of eight ready!
Finally, School
Commission has begun
preparing for the
election of new
members this Spring.
Every year,
three members
complete their terms
on School
Commission, and
three newly elected
members must join
the ranks in their
places.
The election
this year will occur
during all masses on
the weekend of May
22 and 23.
We have until
May 10 to provide
the photos and
personal
bios/statements of
our slate of
candidates to the
Parish, in order to
have time to create
appropriate ballots
for the election.
At that time,
the Parish will also
review the
eligibility of the
candidates and
provide its approval
In order to run for
School Commission,
you need to be at
least eighteen years
old, and a
registered, active
and contributing
parishioner of
Christ the King
Catholic Church.
The only
further stated
limitation is that
employees of either
the School or the
Parish are
ineligible for
election, as well as
their spouses,
children or parents.
Of course,
the Parish retains
full and complete
discretion regarding
candidates as well
as official
appointment of
members-elect to the
Commission.
To learn more about
what School
Commission does and
particularly what it
has been up to
recently, I remind
you that a great
deal of information
can be found on the
School Commission
page of the School’s
website, including:
a School Commission
Discernment Sheet; a
description of our
standing committees
and current rosters
for those
committees; and the
approved meeting
minutes for our
regular School
Commission meetings.
A copy of
the School
Commission
Discernment Sheet is
attached along with
the version of this
letter being
distributed via
e-mail from the
School
administration.
For
additional details,
you can contact me
or any other member
of School Commission
for information and
personal insights on
what it is like to
be a member of
School Commission.
The School is by far
the largest ministry
of the Parish, and I
strongly encourage
anyone who wishes to
have an impact on
the long term
success of this
ministry to at least
inquire about
running.
All
interested
candidates, and
anyone with
candidacy questions,
should contact
School Commission
member Stacey
Hoaglin through the
School office or
through the School’s
student directory.
Thank you for your
attention, and
particularly for
your continued
efforts in support
of our students and
our School!
Sincerely Yours in
Christ the King,
Justin Sage
