A
NOTE
FROM
THE
SCHOOL
COMMISSION
PRESIDENT
|

May 28, 2010
Dear Christ the King
Parents:
As summer break
approaches, the last
few weeks of my
three-year term as a
Commission member as
well as my stint
this past year as
Commission President
are coming to a
close.
Before I move
on to other
opportunities for
involvement in the
School and Parish
community, I would
like to take one
last moment of your
time to wrap up the
school year from the
perspective of
School Commission.
We had a good year
in many respects.
We have
achieved or are
close to achieving
all of our stated
goals for the year:
facilitating updates
to the School Safety
Plan; increasing and
improving
communication to the
School and Parish
communities
regarding the
overall function and
activities of the
School Commission;
and
increasing
enrollment.
Also, we
along with FFG and
the School staff
planned for and
participated in
another successful
Open House, and have
had continuing
efforts relating to
recruiting new
School families.
Our Marketing
Committee has been
active all year long
planning not only
for Open House this
year but also
planning ahead for
future Open House
events as well as
developing general
marketing ideas and
opportunities for
the School.
We reviewed,
discussed and
approved a budget
for the 2010-11
school year that we
believe keeps the
School in a solid
financial position
as a viable ministry
of the Parish for
the near future.
And more
recently we have
been considering and
may soon approve
some substantial
amendments to the
Bylaws and Standing
Rules of the School
Commission.
As you can
see, we have been
active this year.
Looking ahead to
next year, we
recently conducted
elections for new
members of the
School Commission.
As you may
know, Commission
comprises nine
members of the
Parish elected by
the Parish
community, each with
a three-year term of
service.
Every year we
elect three new
members as three
active members
complete their
terms.
Commission
members completing
terms at the end of
this school year
include myself, Ted
Kolbus, and Derek
Redelman.
Ted and
Derek served with me
on the Executive
Committee of the
Commission, as Vice
President and
Secretary,
respectively.
I would like
to thank both Ted
and Derek for their
time and dedication
to the Commission
the last three years
as well as their
work with the
Executive Committee
this past year.
All three of
us intend to remain
active with various
committees of the
Commission, so it
seems they are not
rid of us just yet.
The new members
taking our places
next year are Becky
Walker, Geoff
Thompson and Andy
Kent.
My thanks to
them for offering
themselves as
candidates and
volunteering to
serve in this
capacity, my
congratulations to
them for their
successful
elections, and my
prayers for them all
throughout their
terms.
The Executive
Committee for next
school year will be
selected during our
June meeting, which
is the last regular
meeting of this
school year.
Best of luck
and prayers for
whichever members
are entrusted with
those important
duties.
I
would also like to
say, on behalf of
School Commission,
thank you very much
to our Pastor, Fr.
Tony Volz, for his
support and guidance
as Chairman of the
School Commission
and generally as
Shepherd of the
entire School
community,
importantly
including our School
students.
Fr. Tony will
certainly be missed
as he leaves us to
attend to a new
parish pastoral
assignment.
Best of luck
to him, and our
prayers will follow
him wherever he may
go.
Finally, again on
behalf of the School
Commission, I would
like to thank the
School
administration,
teachers and staff
for another
successful school
year.
Principal
Scott Stewart, Patty
Holtz and Assistant
Principal Jon Combs
deserve the support
and respect of the
entire School
community for their
tireless dedication
to the School and
School families.
The School
staff are always
such a tremendous
resource for the
School community.
And enough
can never be said
about the great work
of our teachers who
make Christ the
King Catholic School
one of the best
places around for a
Catholic-based
grade school
education.
A special
thanks goes to them
all.
As I write this
message, the 8th
Grade class and
their chaperones are
in the midst of
enjoying their trip
to Washington, D.C.;
Field Day has come
and gone; and if
your students are
anything like mine,
they are finding it
harder and harder to
focus on the last
few lessons,
homework assignments
and tests of the
year as the weather
gets warmer and a
summer of outdoor
fun surely awaits.
But before we
know it, they’ll all
be back in uniform
starting a brand new
year!
In closing, best of
luck to our
graduating students,
may they enjoy
continued blessings
and successes
wherever they attend
high school.
And I wish
all of you and your
children a happy,
safe and wonderful
summer.
Thank you for
your attention,
efforts and support
for our School!
Sincerely Yours in
Christ the King,
Justin Sage
